In addition to spending an incredible morning feeding the donkeys and engaging with the wonderful volunteers, I also couldn't resist purchasing a couple of nice t-shirts to support their cause. I also saw a few cats hanging around and a momma cat with her kittens. This just added an extra touch of charm to my experience. However, because they know there's free food available, they make a daily visit, LOL!! how funny is that!?. Interestingly, I learned from the young man inside that the peacocks strolling around the sanctuary actually belong to their neighbors. It was heartwarming to see how these donkeys, once used for transportation and having faced a challenging life, now receive the care, love, and shelter they deserve at the sanctuary. Intrigued by their story, I dedicated most of my time to feeding and comforting them. Curious about the reason, I approached one of the friendly young volunteers named Gretchen (I think), who kindly explained that these particular donkeys tend to be more anxious and nervous, requiring special attention and placement. It felt like I was a celebrity, with all the donkeys flocking around me, hoping for a delicious treat!Īt the entrance of the sanctuary, right by the parking lot, I noticed a few donkeys separated from the rest. I must admit, I wish I had brought more carrots because there were so many donkeys eager for a snack. The best part? Admission is free, although a donation is suggested. On a lovely (and very hot) morning, my boyfriend and I drove up to the sanctuary with a bag of baby carrots in hand, eager to feed and interact with the donkeys. It's a place where you can show your support by stopping by, bringing some carrots or apples, making a donation, and spending quality time with these incredibly beautiful donkeys. I had an absolutely amazing experience during my visit to the Donkey Sanctuary! I can't emphasize enough how much I loved it and how highly I recommend it as a must-visit spot in Aruba, especially for fellow animal lovers. This really is something not to be missed. The iguanas were very chilled out but the smaller lizards are very friendly and quite often jump onto you, this took some getting used to, but they are harmless social little things. The lagoon was perfect and we spent a lot of time cooking off in there and looking at the marine life. Your butler is available by ringing a bell and was always around grabbing drinks and lunch and whatever you needed. The cabana we rented came with snorkelling masks and floats, cool boxes with drinks in, a fruit plate and later in the day our butler bought round ice creams. The Flamingos were very fun and left to roam freely between the two beaches. We had breakfast at Iguana beach and this was delicious and very large, they did box up our leftovers for us to take away. We had booked a Cabana on the adults only beach and this was wonderful and made our visit outstanding. We travelled to the island by boat out of the reception area and it took about 10 minutes to get there. We booked an overnight stay at the Renaissance to guarantee our visit to the island and it was worth the extra cost.
